SAP Cloud ALM in the RISE Context: How Scansor Bridges the Gaps in System Monitoring

RISE with SAP provides only standard monitoring – often reactive and limited. Scansor closes these gaps with custom sensors, in-depth security monitoring, and long-term analysis. This way, you retain full control over your SAP systems

Full control over your SAP systems despite RISE

Are you using SAP S/4HANA Cloud for your ERP system, either with SAP itself or a hyperscaler like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform? With the RISE with SAP offering, you get a solid foundation: hosting, operating system, database, and basic operations are centrally managed. Basic monitoring of performance and availability is also included. But do you really have full transparency over your SAP systems?
SAP takes over parts of the technical operations such as basis operations, infrastructure, operating system, and database management, and provides basic System Monitoring within the agreed service levels. However, the standard monitoring in SAP Cloud ALM or SAP Solution Manager is rather reactive, SLA-driven, and only covers the most important KPIs while offering limited depth of insight. Custom alarm logic, proactive notifications, security checks, or deep trend analyses are missing—and this is precisely where the gap in transparency arises.

Where RISE with SAP cloud monitoring reaches its limits

  • Reactive instead of proactive: SAP only escalates in case of SLA-relevant deviations. Early indicators often go unnoticed.

  • Limited transparency: Operations and monitoring are handled by SAP – so you lack your own insights.

  • No custom alarm logic: Important business or compliance indicators cannot be monitored flexibly.

  • Limited data history: You lack the data needed for capacity planning and performance tuning.

  • Security gaps: There is no comprehensive monitoring of authorization changes, audit logs, or suspicious activities.

How Scansor closes these gaps

  • Scansor offers specially developed sensors for SAP environments – tailored to RISE in the Private Cloud Edition (PCE) and the Public Cloud Edition.
  • In the PCE, almost all known sensors can be used: IDoc, ICM, queue status, and security monitoring.

  • In the Public Cloud, defined core sensors are available – covering basic operations, security, and cloud services.

  • SAP Cloud ALM can additionally be integrated as a data source to fill in missing values.

Comparison: RISE Monitoring vs. Scansor

AreaRISE with SAP (Standard)Scansor Monitoring
Performance & Availability✔ Basic coverage✔ + custom alerts
Security Monitoring✘ Limited✔ NIS2/BSI compliant
Non-SAP & Interfaces✘ Not covered✔ End-to-end monitoring
Historical Analysis✘ Limited✔ Long-term data basis
Alarm Logic✘ Standard only✔ Customizable

Conclusion

With Scansor, you can identify problems before they become SLA-relevant, ensure compliance requirements (e.g., NIS2, BSI), and retain full control – whether you are using RISE in the Private or Public Cloud. An overview of all sensors for each query can be found in the sensor overview.
